Renovation work is finished, the contractors have packed up, and the space is finally yours again—except for the fine layer of dust covering every surface. Post-construction cleaning is a category of its own, and a little preparation on your side makes the difference between a single thorough visit and several return trips.
Wait for the Work to Actually Finish
The most common mistake is booking the deep clean too early. If any sanding, painting, or cutting remains, dust will resettle within hours and the work will need repeating. Confirm with your contractor that every dust-generating task is complete—including snag-list touch-ups—before scheduling.
Clear the Debris First
Cleaning crews are equipped for dust, residue, and grime, not for hauling away offcuts, packaging, and broken tiles. Removing large debris is usually the contractor's responsibility under your agreement. Confirm who is doing it, because a site still full of rubble cannot be cleaned properly.
Protect What Has Already Been Installed
Newly fitted flooring, worktops, and sanitaryware are easily scratched during the final clean if grit is dragged across them. Leave protective coverings in place until the cleaning team arrives, and point out any surface with a specific care requirement—natural stone, hardwood, and powder-coated finishes all need particular products.
Check Water and Power
Post-construction cleaning needs running water and working sockets for extraction equipment. On sites where utilities have not yet been reconnected, tell us in advance so we can bring our own supply.
Expect More Than One Pass
Construction dust is extremely fine and stays airborne for hours. Professional post-construction cleaning is normally done in stages: a rough clean to remove the bulk, then a settling period, then a detailed final clean. Planning for this sequence gives a far better result than trying to compress it into one visit.
Do Not Forget the Overlooked Areas
Dust travels. Inside cabinets and drawers, on top of door frames, in light fittings, inside air vents, and along window tracks are the places it accumulates unnoticed—and the places it later blows back into a room you thought was finished. Flag these when you walk the site with your cleaning team.
